Message from Pete, MNR youth program
Yourth waterfowl weekend
Temiskaming Bullseye Club who donated use of their facilities including clubhouse, trap range, and clay birds along with member Paul Maurice who ran the range for the kids.
Temiskaming Angler and Hunter Association (an OFAH affiliate club), who donated $600 cash that was used to buy a whole range of hunting supplies that were given to the kids to keep. Each young hunter received: a face mask, a camo hat/toque, a goose call, a call lanyard, a headlamp, a gun sock, ear protection, and a hand held clay bird thrower.
Hilliardton Marsh Research and Education Centre, who donated $300 from the proceeds from the bar which they run at our annual DUC fundraising event. This money was used to purchase the ammunition (practice rounds and goose loads) that the kids used, as well as snacks for during the weekend.
John's Tackle Box in New Liskeard, who turned my available money into far more than $900 worth of stuff by greatly discounting all of my purchases.
Mentors this year were:
- Mike Anderson, whose son and daughter both were hunters. Mike is a former DUC employee.
- Cheryl Sheffield, whose daughter was a youth hunter a few years ago.
- Paul and Chris Maxwell, brothers who were both youth hunters in the past and are giving back now as mentors for the second year in a row
Truly a community partnership to get some new waterfowlers into the game.
